Good technical upgrade from older Fire TV – Bought this stick on sale to update the user experience from a 2016 Fire TV. The Fire TV served us well and we will continue to use it in another room with a less watched TV. However, over time, the device has slowed down in all ways from using the voice commands to how apps respond to the button clicks.

Good Device, Impressed this Apple user – Being an all Apple household I have to say this device impressed me quite a bit. I purchased a Firestick Lite over a year ago to take with me for travel but it had a bit of lag and seemed to have network drop outs on hotel WiFi (I know hotel WiFi is less than desired but it was annoying). In December this device was on sale for over half off and I decided to try it out. This was after I had gotten the previous Firestick 4K which was a decent product but I found out it for whatever reason cannot get the latest software (but the “less capable” Firestick Lite can, baffling I know). I purchased this one and sent back the FireStick 4K as the refund on the Firestick 4K covered the cost of this one and then some.

The Best streaming device available and bundled with Prime Video – The Firestick Fire TV device is in my opinion the best streaming device money can buy. The wifi is solid, the user interface is extremely fluid, providing lots of information about titles and integrating available selections from Prime Video and other services apps into recommendations and search results. I really enjoy the bluetooth capability which very conveniently allows me to take my Airpods out of their case and most often automatically connect to the FIrestick. The remote is fantastic, with just as many buttons as necessary without leaving out any important functions (like Chromecast does by omitting the fast-forward and rewind controls from the remote.) It is very ergonomic, and I find myself just tucking it into my palm for long periods as it is very comfortable and a fantastic navigation tool. I like how the UI has a “physics” kind of quality where while holding down the left or right buttons and scrolling through titles the selection with move quickly and then when the button is released the cursor will gradually slow down and pass over two or three titles before settling on the last. Much better than just suddenly stopping when you release the button. The playback quality is excellent and I have never noticed any strange artifacts in the picture quality or sound. Compared to Roku and Google, the Fire TV system is by far superior in quality and user-friendliness. The only thing I would like to see added is more movie/TV metadata integrated into the system, and since Amazon has the ImDb it would be cool to hyperlink actors and directors with their other films and shows that they’ve worked on. I always have ImDb on my phone when I’m browsing to check out that type of info now. And when it’s on sale the Firestick is a serious bargain!
